Young People Lead the Way at New Youth Voice!

We are delighted to have launched a new Youth Club at All Saints Church, creating a safe and welcoming space for local young people to connect, have fun, and make a positive difference in their community.

Starting in May, the group spent their first sessions getting to know one another, sharing ideas, and exploring what they would like to achieve together. Through Youth Voice discussions, they considered the question: “What does a community need?”

The young people decided their first community project would be a litter pick. Taking to the streets around the local school and church, they enthusiastically collected rubbish and helped care for their local area.

It has been fantastic to see leadership, responsibility, and community spirit already shining through. We look forward to seeing the group continue to grow.

Second Course: Jamie's Ministry of Food

Over the past four weeks, our second cohort of families have been coming together at All Saints Church as part of our Jamie’s Ministry of Food course, learning new skills, trying healthy foods, and spending quality time together.

This was our second cohort of families to complete the programme, delivered in partnership with Inn Churches. From healthy omelettes and fajitas to homemade beef burgers, children played an active role in preparing meals while learning about nutrition, budgeting, food preparation, and safe cooking.

The course finished with a special visit to Darley Street Market, where families were given a £20 budget to buy ingredients for healthy meals before celebrating with pizza-making together.

Even after the course ended, families continued using their new skills at home, sharing photos of healthy meals they had cooked together.

A huge thank you to Soraya, Julie, and Blanca from Inn Churches for creating such a fun, welcoming, and impactful experience. We look forward to welcoming our next cohort soon.

It's a Hit: New Boxing Development Programme!

Our young people from the Keighley Hub have recently begun an exciting new Boxing Development Programme at Keighley ABC.

Starting with a small group, the programme is already growing as more young people get involved each week. The sessions provide a positive environment where participants can improve their fitness, learn new skills, and develop discipline and confidence.

Over the first few weeks, young people have been learning boxing techniques, working closely with coaches, and showing great commitment in training. Activities have included tyre-lifting exercises to build strength and pad work focused on technique.

It has been encouraging to see confidence and enthusiasm growing with every session. We look forward to seeing the programme continue to develop, welcoming more young people and helping them grow both in and out of the gym.

Half-Term Diaries

Our children and young people enjoyed a fantastic week of activities during the May half-term holidays, packed with fun, friendship, learning, and new experiences.

TUESDAY:

On Tuesday, a group from our youth clubs headed to Insane Air Trampoline Park for an action-packed evening. From trampolines to climbing challenges, the young people gave everything a go. The energy was high throughout!

WEDNESDAY:

On Wednesday, 16 young people from our Canterbury and Woodside hubs enjoyed a trip to Flip Out. It was wonderful to see them having fun together, burning off energy, and making memories during the school holidays.

THURSDAY:

On Thursday, we visited the Bradford Science and Media Museum, exploring retro games in the Power Up exhibition and learning about light, speed, and sound in Wonderlab. The interactive exhibits provided plenty of opportunities to learn while having fun.

HOLIDAY CLUB:

Alongside the trips, our Holiday Club was full of activity. We made healthy fruit skewers while learning about different fruits, vitamins, and minerals, enjoyed time in the park, and cooled off with water games and a water fight in the sunshine.

A brilliant week filled with laughter, learning, and opportunities for our children and young people to thrive.

Self-Care Session Creates Space for Reflection

On Monday 13th April 2026, our girls at Windhill Youth Club took part in a special pamper and self-care session led by Donna Haigh.

Using a simple skincare routine, Donna explored deeper themes around value, choices, and wellbeing. Beginning with a scrunched £5 note, she reminded the girls that their worth never changes, regardless of life's challenges.

Each skincare step carried a meaningful message. Cleansing encouraged the girls to think about habits and influences they may need to let go of. Toning represented making positive choices and "closing the door" on unhealthy situations, while moisturising focused on protection, healthy boundaries, and self-care.

The session sparked honest conversations about relationships, identity, and self-worth, with reflections including making better choices, thinking before acting, and learning to say no when feeling uncomfortable.

The girls were fully engaged throughout and are already asking for a follow-up make-up tutorial.

A huge thank you to Donna for delivering such a thoughtful and inspiring session.

CHEERS! Annual Sparkling Afternoon Tea

On Saturday 21st March 2026, guests gathered at The Midland Hotel, Bradford for the 9th annual One In A Million Charity Sparkling Afternoon Tea; an afternoon filled with community, celebration, and generosity.

Guests enjoyed a delicious afternoon tea, exciting prize giveaways, a luxury raffle, silent auction, and the debut of Boogie Bingo, which had the room singing along to classic hits from the 80s and 90s. The brand-new Storybox Selfie Mirror also proved a popular addition, helping guests capture special memories throughout the day.

A highlight of the afternoon was hearing inspiring stories of impact as One In A Million enters its 20th anniversary year. Reflecting on the event, Lara Martin said: “It was wonderful being able to celebrate some of these amazing young people and hear about their fantastic achievements! Remember 'one kind act can have a HUGE impact’.”

We would like to extend our sincere thanks to everyone who attended, donated prizes, bid in the auction, and supported the event. Special thanks go to our sponsors Bermar Building, Cliffe House Day Nursery, Thomas Niamh, and The Broadway Bradford, event hosts Lisa Darwin and Lara Martin, and Rebecca Doyle of Wellness House Collective, for helping make the afternoon such a success.

OIAM at the Fashion Ball

On 23rd April, our Fundraising and Events Manager, Helene Coelho, proudly represented One In A Million at the Fashion Ball at the First Direct Arena.

The annual event brings together organisations and individuals from across the region to celebrate those making a positive difference in their communities. We were especially delighted to see Asma Iqbal from our corporate partner, Chadwick Lawrence Solicitors, take to the catwalk in support of our work with children and young people across the Bradford district.

Asma said: “I chose to support the OIAM Charity because every child deserves to feel seen and valued...”

We are grateful to the organisers for creating a platform that enables people to champion causes close to their hearts, and we extend our sincere thanks to Asma and Chadwick Lawrence for their continued support of our mission.
