One In A Million is a Bradford based charity that engages predominantly with disadvantaged children and young people, through Sports, the Arts and Enterprise. Our ‘Hub and Spoke’ model enables us to use formal and informal education as a delivery mechanism to break the cycles of deprivation over their young lives, valuing and celebrating their uniqueness, and letting them know they are ‘one in a million’.
Our charitable objectives are outworked through three legal entities:
- OIAM (Sports) known as ‘One In A Million Charity’, which delivers community based programmes and fundraising activities.
- OIAM Academy Trust includes a school/s, which is/are grant funded by the Department For Education.
- OIAM (Enterprises) Limited is a wholly subsidiary company limited (single) share of OIAM (Sports).
Since we began our first project in 2006, we have remained working with local children and young people. Our passion has been to remain a continuous presence in their lives and increase the depth of support we can offer them in keeping with our core values; compassion, honesty, integrity and excellence.
Our passion is to make a difference to our city through the lives of children and young people. Although we work within parts of Bradford district, which fall within the top 1% of national deprivation, our motivation is to help change the negative statistics that hover over all children and young people so that they can become responsible citizens who thrive in life and in their communities.
As for our name:
We often get asked where it came from! We point people the parable of the ‘Boy and the Starfish’! “We made a difference to that one”.
