Simon Thomas triumphs in the Greenholme 50-Mile Challenge and raises £2,200 for One In A Million Charity. A true story of courage, resilience and hope. On Friday 31st October, 65-year-old Simon Thomas set off from Valley Parade to begin his remarkable 50-mile Greenholme Challenge, walking over 2.5 days in support of One In A Million Charity. What makes Simon’s achievement extraordinary is his personal journey of recovery. Just five months ago, Simon suffered a brain haemorrhage and was unable to walk more than 200 metres. On Friday 17th October 2025, One In A Million was honoured to be chosen as this year’s beneficiary charity for the annual ‘Sporting Lunch’, held at the Craiglands Hotel, Ilkley. Guests enjoyed a wonderful afternoon featuring a delicious two-course meal and lively entertainment thanks to the host, Pete Emmett. The highlight of the event was an inspiring live interview with Alistair Brownlee OBE — double Olympic Gold medallist, multiple World and European Champion, and Commonwealth Games Gold winner — widely regarded as one of Britain’s greatest Olympians of all time.
