Community grows trees together for the next generation.

During Spring, we collaborated with The Sue Belcher Centre which involved representatives from the centre entering a call-out from "Trees for Cities & Fruit Foundation" for interest in a project to create a Mini Orchard.

The call-out was granted, and the project was awarded some fruit trees and bushes to be planted in the grounds at the centre. During the planting of the fruit trees, the centre held a "Back to Nature Day" was held at The Sue Belcher Centre to mark the planting of the fruit trees and involved young people who attend OIAM sessions at the centre along with regular volunteers at Sue Belcher Community Centre from Keighley Lions Rotary Club, YORGreens CIC, and Fruit Works.

The Deputy Mayor & a Local Councillor from Keighley Town Council were in attendance.

After the trees were safely in the ground, everyone sat down together for a hot, home-cooked meal finished off with fruit smoothies freshly blended on the gifted smoothie bike from Fruit Works!

Another strand to this event was to celebrate landing another award in the shape of "The Youth Woodland Project Award", which was led by our Keighley trainee Daniel Pearson.

Our Keighley trainee, Daniel Pearson had this to say about the event:

“I was up at the Sue Belcher Centre bright and early in the day to get prepared for the planting of 800 trees alongside the Mayor and Deputy Mayor, and people from Trees for Cities & Fruit Foundation. This also included further planting for a Youth Woods where, in 10 years’ time, when we’re grown up, we’ll hopefully be able to show our own kids that we have planted these trees and positively contributed to our community in Bracken Bank and in particular, the Sue BelcherCentre”.
