In 2023, Kayleigh attended a World of Work trip to one of our incredible Corporate Partners, Emerald Group Publishing, where her creativity and passion for publishing immediately stood out. This led to a two-year mentorship with the Emerald team, Vicky and Danielle, supporting Kayleigh to develop her writing, create her own book and pursue her ambitions.

Today, Kayleigh is the first in her family to attend university. She is studying English and Creative Writing, something she once struggled to believe was possible.

Reflecting on her journey, Kayleigh says: “One In A Million have given me a real sense of purpose. They see the best in everybody, and they've really helped me grow so much in my confidence and in my passion, and they've helped me believe in myself to the point where I'm now in university and studying my dream.”

She added: “This opportunity has definitely made me feel a lot more confident in myself […] It’s given me a lot more purpose.”

We are incredibly proud of Kayleigh, her persistence, and all she has achieved, a powerful story that highlights the impact on a child when a community comes together.

"When I graduate, I want to work in a publishing company to see the insides of how they run and then I can help writers that struggle with disabilities to get their work seen and heard. I also want to run workshops for children who have a passion, to help them the way that I was helped."
