Youth Voice Leads Community Fun Day in Windhill

During the Easter holidays, Windhill locals came together for a fantastic day of fun; led and inspired by our Youth Voice, who asked us if they could create an event for their community.

There was something for everyone, with activities including Ju-Jitsu, wrestling, a basketball hoop machine, games, arts and crafts, and face painting- it's no surprise the event attracted about 100 people!

Our young people played a key role throughout the day, helping set up tables and chairs, preparing food, and leading the cake stall. They showed great responsibility, leadership, and confidence, engaging warmly with the public and stepping outside their comfort zones to give back to their community. We are so proud of all they achieved!

With support from staff, volunteers, Windhill Community Centre, and local volunteers, including St Peter’s Church and Christchurch School, there was a wonderful atmosphere of togetherness. We’d also like to say a big thank you to the Wellsprings Together team for their support.

The impact for our young people was clear to see:

“We haven’t had a fun day like this in Windhill for ages”
“I enjoyed helping people. It feels rewarding.”
“When I first came down I felt really tired. But after helping on the cake stall I feel really good and full of energy - it’s inspired me to bake more and start my own bakes tall for next time.”

It was a brilliant day of community, connection, and young people leading the way. They’re already excited to plan and host more events in the months ahead.
