Bolton Abbey Ceilidh Raises Thousands for Local Charities

Around one hundred people danced the night away at Bolton Abbey Village Hall on the final evening of January, enjoying a traditional Ceilidh while raising much-needed funds for two local charities.
The lively Wharfeale-based band Buttered Peas provided the music for the event, which was organised by Addingham resident Sophie Pringle alongside friends Fiona Kelleher, Anna Nolan and Judy Patterson.
Sophie chose to support One In A Million, a Bradford-based charity working with children and young people, and Ilkley and District Good Neighbours, which supports older and vulnerable residents in the local area. Inspired by the idea of a traditional Ceilidh, the group rallied friends and volunteers to make the evening a success.
Guests were treated to a hearty supper of haggis, neeps and tatties, while the village hall was transformed with tartan decorations. Dancers of all abilities joined in as the reels and ceilidh dances kept the floor busy throughout the night.

A raffle, featuring prizes generously donated by local people and businesses, helped raise an impressive total of £4,000 for the two charities.
Both organisations were represented in the evening by speakers who shared moving stories about their work, leaving many guests visibly touched by the impact their support would make.
Following the event, messages of praise and congratulations poured in, with several attendees asking whether the Ceilidh might become an annual fixture.

Reflecting on the evening, Sophie said: “We were delighted with the enthusiastic support from everyone involved. After a little rest, we will certainly consider running a similar event in the future”.
Craig McHugh expressed gratitude on behalf of One In A Million: “This generosity means a great deal to us. It will help us continue providing safe and inspiring spaces where children and young people in some of Bradford’s most disadvantaged communities can grow, belong, and thrive.
Your support enables more children to access our positive community pathways programme in sport, the arts and enterprise opportunities for children who might otherwise miss out, led by a charity that believes every child is unique and valued”.
Thank you, Sophie, Fiona, Anna, Judy and everyone else who volunteered for the event.
