‘The World Of Work’ – Student Thrives During Work Experience At Engineering Company
During the last week of February, Deyh-Juan Brown has enjoyed a fabulous time with one of NPS’ group companies.
NPS have significant current and historical success with apprenticeships. Robert Sturrs started as an apprentice in 2005 and has progressed through our teams to manage the pump repair and service centre. The centre provides support for many household brands the hygienic repair centre is audited by several multinational confectioners. Deyh-Juan worked diligently with Robert throughout the week!
In the office, Deyh-Juan has priced components from suppliers and quoted customers following procedures within the ISO 9001 accreditation. In the repair centre he has stripped pumps down for inspection, picked parts from stores, repaired and tested pumps ready for despatch all in line with our ISO 14001 and OHSAS 18001 accreditations for environmental and health and safety published procedures.
Andrew Smith, Managing Director of NPS Engineering Group said, “We first met Deyh-Juan at the One In A Million Careers Expo event during spring of last year. He got chatting with Peter Nicolson, one of our staff, who himself joined us as a school leaver in 2004. During his work experience Deyh-Juan has been a credit to himself and to his school. He has had excellent time keeping, was well presented and applied himself to every task we gave him.
For Deyh-Juan he has enjoyed himself and benefitted from seeing what skills are required to progress in the sector. We hope he has learnt, his daily diary indicates he has gained a wealth of knowledge and information within a short time.
Collectively both NPS Engineering Group and OIAM would hope this is the first step towards further employment opportunities for the children and young people we support.
We would have no hesitation in taking further students from the OIAM work experience programme”.
One In A Million Charity and One In A Million Free School would like to thank NPS Engineering Group for their support as a valued Corporate Partner. They have made a significant investment to give of their time, teaching professional skills and showing a duty of care to provide such a wonderful work experience for Deyh-Juan.
