Community Day Celebrates One Britain One Nation (OBON)

28th June 2019. Children from our Windhill and Canterbury Hubs attended a Community Day at the One In A Million Manningham Hub to celebrate British Values!

Community Activator Rob Carr gave a short talk using the theme of One Britain One Nation. Children then discussed what it means to be British during the scheduled activities taking place the rest of the day. This was explored through arts, crafts and baking amongst others.

Danny Forrest, OIAM Community Pathways Manager said, “As a values centred Charity, we decided to theme our community day around the powerful message of One Britain One Nation. In keeping with our culture and ethos we focused on celebrating the values we share: tolerance, kindness, pride, respect, and a tremendous desire to help others; rather than focusing on differences”.

Kayden, 6, said, “Community days are really good. I get to meet different people from different (OIAM) centres in Bradford and I enjoyed playing on games and having fun with them”.

A number of OIAM Free School student volunteers supported the day including Tasmia T, Halima K, Muhammad R, Riyadur R. They said, “Helping young kids is the best part of volunteering. Meeting new people bring us happiness and seeing them smile, makes us smile! We consider volunteering as an amazing opportunity. We feel blessed and grateful to play our part in celebrating One Britain One Nation”. Former OIAM Free School students Joshua R and Ammara B also helped out alongside Classroom Learning Support Miss Dalby (of OIAM Free School).

Mark Hughes, OIAM Executive Leader said, “Thank you everyone for so generously giving of your time to volunteer and support our themed community day in partnership with One Britain One Nation (OBON) and our good friend Kash Singh. Children of all backgrounds came from across the city to be together today to have lots of fun in a safe environment. Somwhere amongst all the fun, was a life shaping message. Hopefully, this message will take root in seed form and grow into something very special, which will over time see these children and young people become pillars of the community and future culture shapers that prosper our city!
