Packetts Insurance support One In A Million with the second Tour de Dales ‘Break the Cycle’ Bike Ride.

15th May 2017. On 13/14th  May 2017 saw the start of the second ‘Packetts’ Tour de Dales Charity Bike Ride’ in support of One In A Million.

Starting from Packetts head office in Saltaire, the ride was started by Bradford City legend, John Hendrie and saw riders cycle to Masham via part of the gruelling Tour de Yorkshire route. Following an overnight stay and an evening reception at Theakston’s world famous brewery, the riders set off back to Bradford and One In A Million HQ at Valley Parade the following day, via the Halfway House in Baildon who provided all riders with much needed food and refreshments before completing the round trip of nearly 200 miles!!

Leading the peloton was Wayne Jacobs Chief executive of One In A Million and Marshall Sugden, Packetts’ Managing Director.

Marshall said “As proud Bradfordians, it’s important that we do our bit to support local youngsters, some of whom face a tough start in life. Through our efforts we’re doing our bit to ‘break the cycle’ of deprivation that afflicts so many young people in the city. Nearly 2,000 of them used the facilities offered by ‘One In A Million’ last year alone. So every mile we ride is raising money for a great local charity.”

The Packett peloton grew this year to 35 riders for this year’s event once again in support of One In A Million. The event marks Packetts’ 97 th  birthday and is all part of the build-up to their centenary in 2020.

On behalf of all at One In A Million we would like to say a massive thank you to Packetts, our riders and supporters for joining us and raising an incredible £18,675 at this years event to support Bradford’s children & young people.

Wayne Jacobs, co-founder; Chief Executive of One In A Million added: “We’re delighted that Packetts are back in the saddle raising funds for us. Our mission is, through sport, art and education, to help local kids recognise their individuality and release their true potential – proving that they are ‘one in a million’. I rode the event last year and know how tough it is; at the same time it was a brilliant weekend and that’s why

I’m back on the start line for this year’s event”. Kersten England, Chief Executive of Bradford Metropolitan District Council, whose husband Richard was taking part in the ride said “Both Richard and I, at a personal level, are keen supporters of ‘One In A Million’ and admire the fantastic work they do around the city. The Packett ride is important in other ways too. With around 40 local businesses represented on the ride, it’s also about the Bradford business community working together to support a great local cause. The Tour de Yorkshire has already promoted cycling in the city and this is another opportunity to raise cycling’s profile locally. It’s a great way of keeping fit and I’m really sorry I won’t be on the start line, but I am hoping to join the ride for at least one section of the course.”
