On Your Marks. Get Set. Go!! All Students Are The Real Winners On Sports Day

On Friday 15th July 2022, OIAMFS had its first proper Sports Day since 2019 during to the global pandemic!

It was fantastic to be back at Horsfall Stadium, the home of Bradford Park Avenue. What a wonderful environment it was to have the whole school together to compete, have fun and celebrate each other.

Students were sat together in their ‘house teams’ so that they could cheer their fellow housemates on. In true One In A Million spirit they ended up cheering everyone on whilst having great fun.

Students competed in a range of events that included: Track - 100m, 200m, 800m, plus, throwing, javelin, shot put, jumping, standing long jump, triple Jump, and an obstacle course!

One student remarked, “It was nice to have a sports day after the pandemic. We were all cheering together and enjoying the house competitions”.

Charlotte Stuart, Head of PE/Associate Senior Leader said, “It was lovely to the students creating such a friendly competitive atmosphere. Their attitude and behaviour was exemplary throughout the whole day, not only in the effort from the participants but the support from the crowd. We had teams cheering on other teams, participants helping each other over the finish line in the 800m race! It was a very proud day and pleasure to be a part of it”.

Mark Hughes, OIAMFS Trust Member, who attended the day, added, “Today was not just an outstanding sporting day but an inspiring celebration of inclusion, equality, and diversity, which are central to our school values of compassion, honesty, integrity, and excellence. I loved watching the interaction between the students and staff. There was a real sense of togetherness, which came out in the positive tangible atmosphere. In addition, it was very exciting to see how many outstanding athletes we have emerging across each year groups in the school! I would like to thank everyone who made this day possible and in particular colleagues in the PE department. Students and staff should be very proud of themselves”.
